Saints Help Families

There is no question that families are under a spiritual attack right now. The good news is that the saints are here to help families thrive! Here are some stories about how different saints helped families with securing jobs, adoption, having a baby, and during times of mourning.

St. Josemaria Escriva

My wife and I got married in 2018. We practiced NFP for the first couple months because we didn’t want to have a child right away. So when we decided to have a child, we started a novena that January (the novena came in an email) and it was to St. Josemaria Escriva. All it said was that he’s for marriages, for family and laypeople. After seeing the email I thought, “this is pretty cool, let’s start praying this novena.” We begin praying the novena and start trying to conceive a baby. On the 9th day of the novena we got our answer; that was the day that we found out we were pregnant. We were like, “Wow, praise God! Josemaria Escriva, thank you for your intercession!” We start looking to find out more information on this saint. We found out that he is the founder of Opus Dei, and a lot of really cool stuff. My wife and I always get into these God-instances with dates, and so we found out that Josemaria Escriva was canonized on October 6th, the day we were married.

St. Joseph

After we had just finished the consecration to St. Joseph I felt a total renewal and devotion-I really didn’t know a lot about him. We really didn’t talk about him a lot. St. Joseph was a really good foster father to Jesus and that was about it. So when we did the consecration to St. Joseph with a book from Fr Calloway, it totally changed my husband’s and my life. It was incredible- he showed up I don’t know how many different ways and how many different times. Most especially, though, after we did the consecration to him, we had a specific intention and hadn’t gotten an answer yet. I happened to check the door (no one had knocked or come up to the door- I would have been able to hear if someone had), and there was a fake lily and it had a little note. It was mind blowing! And we were like “Ok, St. Joseph, you are looking out for us and we appreciate it.” It was just absolutely amazing!

More recently, my husband just got a job that he didn’t even apply for. He had been praying to St. Joseph; it had been rough financially with rapid decline in my sales and stuff like that. At the time it was just me working and being the sole source of income. He was worried about what we were going to do and knew we needed help, so he prayed to St. Joseph. He literally got a job that he didn’t even apply for and it was just crazy. This man called him out of nowhere and said, “Hey, I want you to work for me.”

(From a previous Instagram post Alicia shared that gives more of the backstory)

Do you have a St. Joseph statue in your home? We didn’t (other than a small one with the Holy Family) After we finished the @consecrationtostjoseph we bought one from the website (as well as several other pieces of Art 😍 check it out, they’re AMAZING)

This book is SO necessary for the times we are going through. I can’t recommend it enough! I’ve been drawing closer & closer to St. Joseph since 2004 when I was pregnant with my son & started having complications. (I’ll tell that story another time! 😉)

Our book arrived late so my husband & I had to start our Consecration later. After we had finished the consecration, I specifically had some prayers I’d been coming to St. Joseph about especially with my business. A couple days later, my husband tells me there’s something on our front porch. It’s a White Lily with a note attached that says “Do what you can, with what you have, where you are.” That spoke volumes to me! I had several ways I had wanted to help family members or make new projects & I was very limited to what I could do. I had the thought that maybe while I was limited on supplies & ways of replenishing said supplies, I’d do whatever I could, with what I had, where I was at. Coincidence…? I think not!!!

Thank you St. Joseph, I’m so humbled by all that you do for me as my Spiritual Father 🙏🏽♥️

St. Margaret Mary Alocoque

It was during the reception after my mother’s funeral in 2021 that I profoundly felt that my mother was being looked after by Saint Margaret Mary Alocoque. I was telling some of my friends that my mother had a devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Immediately, one of my friends said, “It’s like Saint Margaret Mary came to take your mother home. Today is the feast of Saint Margaret Mary.” That was such a beautiful realization for me. My brother and I had no idea when we selected the date of October 16 to be the date of my mother’s funeral that it was the Feast of Saint Margaret Mary.

Saint Margaret Mary was truly a friend at my time of mourning. One of the definitions of the word friend is someone who gives assistance. I did agree with what my friend said. I felt that Saint Margaret Mary gave my mother assistance on her journey home to heaven. I felt that Saint Margaret Mary was giving me a sign that I didn’t have to worry about my mother. It was a deep consolation for me that a great friend of The Most Sacred Heart of Jesus was watching over my mother since my mother absolutely loved The Most Sacred Heart of Jesus. My mother went to First Friday mass rain or shine when she was able to go. My mother would spontaneously sing songs that referred to the Sacred Heart during her day. I’d hear my mother sing the phrase “Heart of Jesus, meek and mild Hear O hear Thy feeble child…” and “O Lord, I Am not worthy that thou should’st come to me; But speak the word of comfort, My spirit healed shall be.”

Even though my mother and the saints have died, I feel that we can call on them and they actually do look after us even though we don’t realize it until later. I feel that one day, I’ll meet my mother again and she will introduce me in heaven to Saint Margaret Mary and the Sacred Heart of Jesus.

Venerable Patrick Peyton

I can say with certainty that Saints Alive wouldn’t exist unless my husband and I hadn’t chosen to pick up the rosary. We were newly married, and our prayer life had quickly been slipping away with the chaos of life: a baby on the way, two moves in six months, job changes, the list goes on. But as our prayer life dissolved, so did our foundation. Our communication began to break down and we felt the call to change. This call came from Venerable Father Patrick Peyton with his famous phrase: “The family that prays together, stays together.” We had both heard this growing up, but once we let those words resonate, it changed our marriage. We decided to start small: praying a rosary every night. Father Patrick Peyton became the patron of our marriage and with each little “yes” in prayer, our hearts were opened to the adventure Christ was offering if we followed Him. As our prayer grew, so did our love, and our conversations began to turn away from ourselves and more towards Christ. With one simple habit, our marriage was transformed. We were able to hear the call God had placed on our hearts and take the leap. Our spiritual lives aren’t complex, if anything they are childlike. We try, we fall and we get back up again. But grace really does build on nature. Once we formed the habit of praying a daily rosary, picking up new habits in prayer were that much easier. No matter what the day has held, we end it in a rosary. And we start again. We pick up where we left off, accept our failures and turn to Christ each morning to make all things new for His glory. – Melissa Dee Saints Alive Podcast

St. Therese of Lisieux

Lindsay from Just Love Prints shared this story on her Instagram and gave me permission to share it here.

I never felt like I had a tangible connection with a Saint until last year when we were pregnant with our “rainbow baby.” 🌈 The pregnancy had its twists and turns, but every time I thought about a stressful situation, St. Thérèse would automatically cross my mind, and I felt an instant surge of peace.

We had previously miscarried in April, and gave birth the following May. I couldn’t help but think of the phrase, “April showers bring May flowers.” Thank you, Little Flower, for the peace you brought and continue to bring our family. 🌸 PS. The baby’s nursery is flower themed in honor of St. Thérèse.”-
