My mom brain moment today.
Happy Monday, Everyone!
I just wanted to share about my day today (spoiler! Major “mom brain” moment), and please tell me that you have had days like this before!
Gabriel and Rebecca had a doctor’s appointment this afternoon. I planned out this whole day today around that. The appointment was at 2:20, meaning we would have to leave the house by 1:50 at the latest if we wanted to get there with time to spare. That is usually in the middle of their naps, so I decided to save nap time (and my workout/sanity time) we would have an early lunch today, giving them enough time to squeeze a nap in before the doctor.
Today is a preschool day. So I fed the girls their lunch before picking Gabriel up at school, and packed his lunch for him to eat in the car. He thought it was pretty cool.
Everything was going great. I had changed the girls before we left, so they were good to go down for naps when we got home, and Gabriel just had to use the bathroom before naptime. I fed Shiloh and somehow managed to get my workout in and eat some lunch before getting the kids up and ready and into the car. We left right on time and got there with 10 minutes to spare! I got everyone unloaded, masks on, we walk in the door.
Theresa immediately started screaming. She has had a big fear of the doctor ever since her surgery and procedures she’s had to endure, and the last doctors appointment at this office was one for her, so of course, she thinks she’s about to see the doctor. The receptionists were both on the phone, and I’m waiting for someone to check us in while Gabriel and Rebecca are looking around the waiting room and making themselves comfy.
When it was my turn to check the kids in, I give her our name, and the receptionist asks for it again with a look of confusion. So I spell our last name out (a lot of people think it is spelled with a k). Then she says “I know I saw your names on here somewhere but I didn’t think it was today.”
And then it hit me. Their appointment was for April 27th. Tuesday. I mixed up the dates. At least I was early and didn’t miss the appointment!
Believe it or not, this has happened to me before. But it was the opposite. I completely forgot about a doctors appointment for my kids until the office called me asking if I was coming in. I blame mom brain.
Has anyone else had moments like this? Is my memory just really bad?
Oh well. The funny thing is that the kids were so disappointed they couldn’t go to the doctor today they were crying when we had to leave! Maybe it was because I promised them lollipops if they behaved and had to get shots?
You know you have a devotion to a saint when…
We didn’t let the change in schedule ruin the day though! I still had to stop by the gym for a minute, and while we were waiting for it to open we stopped by a thrift store by there to kill some time. Gabriel and Rebecca got to pick out a toy, and Gabriel even helped me find some books on Mother Teresa!
It is actually a cute story. I was looking for some of her books but didn’t expect to find anything. I didn’t tell the kids what I was looking for. Then all of a sudden I heard Gabriel ask me, “Look Mommy! Is that Mother Teresa?” So I immediately look where he was pointing and he was right! It was her! Can you tell I have a devotion to her if my 4 year old recognizes her picture? 😀
I’ve gotten some books about her for my birthday, and he immediately noticed them and looked at the pictures, so that’s how he recognized her. But I think that maybe she also played a role in helping us find her book <3
Pure Joy
Gabriel picked out a police car at the store, and was asking to put batteries in it so the lights would work. After they all ate dinner, I took a look at it and put in batteries and turned the switch to “on”, and immediately my heart sank. It didn’t work!
When I told him he was so disappointed and was starting to cry. I told him about another time he had gotten a car from the store and how it didn’t work for awhile and then one day it randomly started working, and maybe the police car would be the same way. It turns out he didn’t have to wait that long! While I was calming him down and looking at the car, it started working. It turns out that you have to squeeze the side of the car to get it to make noise and flash the lights. He was so happy and it filled my heart to see the joy it gave him!
Rebecca picked out a musical cat figurine, and it was also beautiful to see her excitement watching it turn around and play music. She was also so sweet and pet the sleeping cats gently while telling me that they were sleeping.
Raising kids can be stressful, (trust me, last week was rough!) but its also filled with so much joy! Seeing their joy in the little things, and their innocence makes this mama heart melt. I’m so blessed and thankful God chose me to be their mom.
I hope you all had a great start to your week, and are not as scatterbrained today as I am!
