Chores
This morning the first thing I did when I got the kids up was give them a much needed bath.
I feel like most parents have one or two parts of parenthood that just seem daunting. My task is giving baths. (Also trimming nails, but that doesn’t tie in to this story 🤣)
Of course I love for my kids to be clean, but look at it from my perspective: getting all 4 kids into the bath, getting them clean, letting them play, getting them out and dried off, dressed, hair combed/brushed, it’s a long process!
And days where I have a lot to get done, giving a bath takes up too much time. So a lot of the time if we don’t have anywhere to be, my kids go without.
Tying daily living to Faith
But how appropriate that today on Holy Thursday, the first thing I did was give the kids a bath and wash their feet? (We have family coming so they needed one!) I realized as I was giving them a bath that it was a great way to get into the Holy Thursday mindset.
Jesus did not have to wash his disciples feet. In fact, it was very unusual for Him, their teacher, who was viewed to be above them in a social standing to humble Himself and wash their feet. But He did it out of love.
It was an act of love, humility, service, and a sacrifice made from love that He washed all of their feet. And every time I give my kids a bath, I get to participate in that act of love, service, and humility.
Holy Thursday is brought to life anytime we give our kids or loved ones who need assistance a bath to help them get clean, or feed them dinner to help nurture.
Jesus set the ultimate example of what it means to be a leader. He didn’t only preach, but lead by example of how to love each other unconditionally.
Happy Holy Thursday, everyone!
